What is Fenbendazole?

Fenbendazole is a broad-spectrum anthelmintic medication primarily used to treat parasitic worm infections in animals, including dogs, cats, horses, and livestock. It belongs to a class of drugs known as benzimidazoles, which work by interfering with the metabolism of the parasites, leading to their death. Fenbendazole is effective against a variety of gastrointestinal parasites such as roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, tapeworms, and certain protozoa. Though it is most commonly used in veterinary medicine, fenbendazole has been studied for potential use in humans as well, particularly in the context of certain cancers, although it is not FDA-approved for this purpose. How Does Fenbendazole Work? Fenbendazole works by binding to the microtubules of parasitic cells, specifically interfering with the structure and function of the parasite’s cellular processes.
